Nempe Stylita seu Stylites, quasi columnaris, cognomen Simeonis, de quo Laetus, Simeon Stylita, inquit, qui in columna LXXX. annis steterat, vivus miraculo est, mortuus Antiochenis et Leoni Imperatori materia rixae, in Compendio Hist. Univ. p. 145. Floruit autem is A. C. 460. sequutique eum alii quoque, a tam insolito ἀσκήσεως genere, idem cognomen sunt adepti. Columnam eius describit Macer, quod habuerit quadratum spatium duorum cubitorum ex utroque latere, in quo circumcirca substructio altitudinem lumborum non excedens, cum porticula et lignea scala, in Hierol.
